Chenrezig statue Avalokiteshvara

Here you see an impressive, large and finely crafted statue from Nepal's workshops.

Such large and exquisitely crafted statues are usually made for the surrounding monasteries (Buddhist temples) or Tibetan monasteries and remain there forever to serve the practicing monks and lamas as an object of devotion.

The statue itself is made in the manufacturing process of the "lost form" and is masterfully done.

Several artists collaborated in this work to create this beautiful Chenrezig deity.

It takes several months to make such a statue and it is 100% handmade and 100% unique.

It is "One Color oxidized" and the face is very impressive in expression. 

The pupils are clearly highlighted and enhance the presence of the statue.

The engravings on the ornaments as well as the clothing is exceptionally deep and very finely crafted. (this is what makes the quality and therefore the value of a statue).

The statue can be filled from below, as is Tibetan tradition.

Avalokiteshvara (Sanskrit "the Lord who looks down", tib. Chenresig) is the embodiment of the compassion of all Buddhas. He is the most revered bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism, and the Dalai Lama, Karmapa, and other high lamas are considered his incarnation.

According to Mahayana teachings, Avalokiteshvara is a bodhisattva who has taken a sacred oath to help beings out of all hardships and to postpone his own enlightenment until he has helped all sentient beings attain nirvana.

Another Tibetan source states that Buddha Amitabha gave one of his two chief disciples, Avalokiteshvara, the task of caring for Tibet. Therefore, he is also considered the patron saint of Tibet.

His practice is associated with the mantra Om mani padme hum, the recitation of which is the most popular religious practice among Tibetans.

Avalokiteshvara has an exceptionally large number of manifestations; one of them is the pictured, rather rare representation with 18 arms.

He is white, seated on a throne of lotus and moon, symbolizing his primordial purity (the lotus that grows from the swamp yet always remains pure) and compassion (the moon that cools the heat of samsara). On his head he carries his teacher and inspiration, the Buddha Amitabha.

In his first two hands he holds the wish-fulfilling jewel of bodhicitta (the intention to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings); the attributes in his remaining hands, some of them of a wrathful nature, help him to carry out this intention by skillful means and are therefore further manifestations of his compassion.
